National Folk Festival

The Montana Folklife Area celebrates the rich, living heritage of Montana. In the first year, the theme of the Montana Folklife Area is Masters and their apprentices carrying on age old traditions.

Demonstrations, displays, exhibits, performances and narrative presentations by Montana masters and their apprentices will explore subjects ranging from saddle making to Salish basket making, from Metis fiddling to parfleche and hide preparation, from Ukranian pysanky to Star quilting, from traditional doll making and regalia to cowboy poetry and more. Check back for more details about the talented and cherished participants in the Montana Folklife Area at the 70th National Folk Festival.
